Big Woods Beef is a family-owned farm operation located in southern Minnesota. It is part of the Grote family farm, operating on the same land since 1856.

The farm is operated by Joe and Emily Grote, representing the 6th generation of Grotes, alongside Joe’s parents, Fred and Barb.

Big Woods Beef offers a variety of beef products, including individual cuts of meat, quarters, halves, and pre-packaged bundles. Their selection includes premium steaks, roasts, ground beef, and more.

They select heifers for their breeding herd based on DNA samples compared with a national database, focusing on meat quality categories. This process helps them constantly improve the quality of their beef.

In addition to beef cattle, the farm operates a nursery for hogs and grows cash crops like corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. They emphasize sustainable and responsible farming practices, including raising cattle without added hormones.

Big Woods Beef offers beef bundles such as the Single Beef Bundle, Double Beef Bundle, and Triple Beef Bundle, which include a mix of ground beef, roasts, sirloin steaks, T-bone steaks, and ribeye, varying in quantity and price.

The Grote family's farming legacy dates back to 1856 when Wilhelm Grote migrated from Germany and established the farm. Over generations, the farm has evolved from dairy operations to a comprehensive agricultural enterprise.

The farm contributes to local industries by selling corn for feed and ethanol production and baling alfalfa for local livestock. Their practices support the sustainability of local agriculture and community involvement.

Customers can purchase whole, half, or quarter animal packages with customized butchering options. They also offer individual cuts and beef bundles for those looking for specific products.

They offer delivery within a 70-mile radius of Faribault, Minnesota, and complimentary delivery for orders within a 20-mile radius. Customers can also pick up their orders directly from the farm, allowing them to see the farm operations firsthand.
